Design for Community

Johnson Roberts Associates has provided the design of public sector projects since 1996. Our team of experts has a proven track record for the design of both new construction and renovation of K–12 educational facilities, higher educational facilities, public libraries, community facilities, public safety facilities and municipal offices. Sustainability and accessibility are important elements of all of our projects, and we truly enjoy restoring historic landmarks.

We also excel at developing future-proof Master Plans and Feasibility Studies, and providing reliable on-call architect/engineer services (many under Chapter 149 or House Doctor contracts) for colleges and state agencies such as: Bridgewater State University; Northern Essex Community College; Worcester State University; Tufts University; MassDOT; MA DCR; MSBA, MSCBA and many more.

Client feedback

Our client list ranges from state agencies to local municipalities, and they have some nice things to say about us.

A Successful Outcome Starts with An Excellent Team

Our team is led by JRA’s three principals: Stew Roberts, Jeff Davis and Philip O’Brien — who provide many years of in-depth experience with public architecture projects to serve a wide variety of clients. We currently have four architects and eight designers/drafters on staff.

Consultants and engineers are carefully chosen for each project — with skill sets that perfectly suit the specific goals and challenges presented. Most are from firms that we have long-lasting relationships with, but we are always on the lookout for new, talented professionals to collaborate with. And we are proud that many of our consultants are woman- or minority-owned, because we firmly believe that diversity makes us stronger.

As always, we have received exceptional service by your firm, in particular Phil O’Brien. Phil has worked on many projects with the Town of Dracut including the Library, Town Hall and most recently Fire Station #3. Phil and his team are dedicated to the project from day one, offer constructive advice and keep the Town and its Permanent Building Committee on task. They are keenly aware of the need to keep projects on time and within budget. This project in particular has gone very smooth with very few change orders which is a testament to the preparation that took place between the Town and JRA. I would, without hesitation recommend your firm to others.

Ann Vandal
Town Manager (Dracut, MA)

On behalf of the Trustees, staff and patrons of the Brighton Library I want to thank and congratulate you on achieving Silver LEED certification of the branch. You and your team were instrumental in making sure that we satisfied the demanding LEED requirements.
The branch has been transformed into a beautiful design that welcomes people of all ages to explore, learn, teach, and relax. It embodies the essence of public pride and the neighborhood loves it!
Thank you for the creative effort and intelligent work you invested in this excellent project. It has been a pleasure to work with you.

Amy E. Ryan
Former President, Boston Public Library

On behalf of the University of Massachusetts Lowell, the Facilities Project Management group would like to recognize Johnson Roberts Associates for your hard work and effort in helping us to successfully complete our summer projects. Tight schedules and tight budgets made the summer projects challenging, but we could not have done it without the exceptional performance of your firm.
Jeff Davis was an essential part of the success. He was able to create a solution for a space issue with a limited budget. Thank you for your commitment to excellent service.

Jean Robinson
UMass Lowell Director of Capital Projects
