Construction of the new Greenfield Public Library is underway

Demolition of the existing, outdated fire station at the rear of the site is one of the first steps to prepare for the new library project. Demolition contractors cut away the original fire station cupola and lifted it clear of the building recently, and set it on a flatbed trailer for transport to its new home at the new fire station project (currently under design in a separate project by the City of Greenfield). Some other historic items will also go to the new fire station, and some will be reused at the new library, still others will be salvaged for use as fund raisers — and much of what can be recycled will be, including grinding of concrete for fill.
