The new Greenfield Public Library responds to the community’s desire for an improved and expanded library in a downtown location by constructing the new library adjacent to the existing library. The two-story plan will create a new children’s library with a dedicated story room, community meeting spaces, informal reading areas, a dedicated teen room and adult reading and study areas.
Earlier, we completed a thorough feasibility study to explore site options for renovation, expansion and new construction. The new library is funded in part by a grant from the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners (MBLC). In November 2019, the Town voted to fund the required match for the MBLC grant. The project was completed in 2023. Hundreds of excited community members, the press and the Governor attended the Grand Opening Celebration. This project came in at $1,600,000 under budget.
