On July 7, 2018, the Powder Magazine celebrated both its bicentennial and restoration. Originally constructed in 1818 to store gunpowder (in Cambridge, MA), the Powder Magazine is the oldest structure along the Charles River Basin. Johnson Roberts Associates collaborated with Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) in its interior rehabilitation for a three-season function facility. Specific scope of work included the re-pointing of the existing interior stone walls, new / restored finishes throughout, new public toilet rooms, new food catering facility infrastructure, and new mechanical / plumbing / electrical / lighting / fire alarm systems.
We received a 2022 Cambridge Historical Commission Preservation Award for this project!
